One of the most impressive beaches of Lefkada, Egremni has an immense sandy coastline and exotic water. Visitors have to climb up and down a lot of steep steps.
Is a remote beach between Agios Nikitas and Kathisma, on the western side of Lefkada. You can choose between a trekking passage or a boat trip from Ag Nikitas to discover this sandy beach.
This is a small beach in close distance to Vassiliki, the popular windsurfing spot on the south of the island.
This small beach is close to Kalamitsi village, at the west coast of the island. Its name means “large rock”, depriving from the rocks that come out from the sea.

Located near the entrance of the island, the Castle of Agia Mavra (Santa Maura) was built in the 14th century by the Sicilian Ioannis Orsini, to protect the island’s capital from pirates and other enemies. Throughout the centuries, the castle has undergone several renovations, notably by the Venetians in the 15th century and it is now kept in a well-preserved state.
Situated near the village of Nidri, the Dimossari Waterfalls (also known as Nidri Waterfalls) is a little paradise of greenery, perfect for refreshing dips on those hot summer days. Oozing tranquillity and serenity, this waterfall ends in a lake with spectacular rocks. You can easily reach it from Nidri by following the signs and by walking through the gorge.
The capital of Lefkada is home to a colourful mosaic of buildings, two-storied houses, churches and cobbled streets. When you arrive on the island, the first stop bears the marks of the strong earthquakes that shook its shores in 1867 and in 1948, nearly destroying the entire island. As such, the new constructions, covered with coloured sheets of metal, offer an interesting aspect.
Board, boom, sail… and we’re off to windsurf in Vasiliki and Ai Gianni, two of the world’s best beaches for the sport and home to the International Regatta. If you prefer kitesurfing, Myli, near Lefkada town, is ideal. If you’re even more courageous, you can paraglide – an unforgettable flight with an exciting landing at Kathisma, one of Lefkada’s most gorgeous beaches.
The monastery of Faneromeni was built in the green pine clad hill, on the west side of the town, where the view of Aghios Ioannis, Gira and Castle was magical. Its history comes from centuries ago, starting from the first apostolic years. For that reason is, one of the most significant monuments of the island and the only monastery still in residence.
Located in Cape Lefkadas, on the southwestern tip of the island, the lighthouse stands tall on steep rocks and visitors are always in awe of the sight. At sunset, the sky colours the sea with reddish hues, resulting in a fantastic view. Legend has it that, ancient poet Sappho jumped from the cliffs, after being rejected by Phaon.
The distance from Athens to the island of Lefkada, is around 380km through the bridge of Rio- Antirrio (Patra) and the new Ionian highway. The distance from Thessaloniki to Lefkada island is around 377km.
There is no direct line to travel to Lefkada by ship. Travelers can use the port of Igoumenitsa and continue driving for about 95 km. Alternatively, the port of Patra can be used and then drive for about 180km. There are daily timetables connecting the Corfu island and Igoumenitsa with many ports of Italy. You can find timetables here.
Frequent flights are performed from Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) to the Aktion airport, 17km from Lefkada, next to the town of Preveza. Consult your air carrier as there are more flights available during summer months.
Bus is another way to get to Lefkada island. From Athens is around 5 hours and from Thessaloniki is around 4.5 hours.
